What is Rupee?

Rupee (RUP) emerges as a decentralized, open-source cryptocurrency built on blockchain technology. Its primary objective is to introduce decentralized finance (DeFi) to the South Asian market. Despite its name, Rupee is distinct from the traditional South Asian currency of the same name. However, leveraging the familiarity and recognition of the term "rupee," the cryptocurrency aims to establish itself as a widely accepted medium of exchange and payment method within the regional population.

According to the project's whitepaper, a significant portion of both the global and South Asian populations face challenges accessing conventional financial services due to insufficient documentation. As a result, many individuals are unable to reap the benefits of the digital revolution in finance. Cryptocurrencies offer a promising alternative as they bypass the lengthy identification and verification processes required by traditional financial institutions. Rupee recognizes that cryptocurrencies enable cheaper, faster, and more transparent transactions, fostering increased liquidity. It aspires to become the virtual currency of choice for South Asia, simplifying fund transfers and encouraging retailers to accept cryptocurrencies for goods and services.

To achieve its vision, Rupee is implementing the following strategies:

  1. Brand Recognition: The Rupee brand already carries significant recognition in South Asia, where 2 billion people reside. The term "rupee" is associated with traditional currencies in countries such as India, Pakistan, Indonesia, the Maldives, Mauritius, Nepal, Seychelles, and Sri Lanka. Leveraging this widespread familiarity, the platform aims to capture the attention of the global South Asian community, particularly in the United States and Europe.

  2. E-Commerce: Rupee seeks to provide e-commerce solutions for all, facilitated by the use of cryptocurrencies. The RupeeBase marketplace offers a platform for merchants to trade their products with minimal fees.

  3. Decentralized Platform: Rupee operates on a decentralized blockchain platform based on Dash Hybrid. By eliminating intermediaries, the network provides users with direct access to financial services. Rupee owners can securely store their coins in Rupee digital wallets.

  4. Community: Rupee prides itself on being established "by the people for the people" and enjoys robust community support.

  5. Rewards Mechanism: Rupee's rewards mechanism is based on Masternodes. Masternodes are special servers that power the blockchain and play a vital role in transaction verification and governance. They enable key services within the Rupee network, including:

  • InstaSend: This feature enables near-instantaneous transactions, rivaling centralized payment platforms' transaction speeds. With Rupee InstaSend, users can promptly send payments with nominal fees.

  • PrivateSend: Designed to preserve financial privacy, PrivateSend obscures the origin of funds on the blockchain.

Regarding the token, RUP serves as the native utility token of the Rupee platform. Originally derived from a Litecoin fork, RUP has since evolved into a fork of Dash. Its fundamental purpose is to serve as a rapid mode of payment for cryptocurrency transfers. Additionally, RUP tokens are distributed to Masternode operators, while users can also stake their RUP coins on the platform to earn yields.

The history of Rupee traces back to its launch as a Litecoin fork in January 2017. In 2018, the coin transitioned into Rupee 2.0 with the introduction of proof of stake. Rupee's founder is Adam Syed, the CEO of India Scap Mart, based in India. The cryptocurrency's whitepaper was released in June 2018.

During its early stages, the Rupee team sold 90% of the initially mined coins on exchanges to secure funds for development. Currently, the total supply of RUP coins stands at 84 million.

New RUP tokens can be staked by keeping them in a wallet for a specified period, allowing holders to earn profits. Staking represents a fundamental aspect of decentralized finance, with rewards determined by the number of tokens staked and the duration of the staking period. The longer the staking period, the higher the potential returns. Operating on the Ethereum network, Rupee employs a proof-of-stake consensus mechanism to secure its network and validate new blocks. Validators authenticate block transactions based on the number of coins staked.

In conclusion, Rupee (RUP) offers a decentralized financial solution tailored for the South Asian market. By leveraging its brand recognition and implementing strategies focused on e-commerce, decentralization, and community engagement, Rupee aims to bring the benefits of cryptocurrency and blockchain technology to the region. With its robust rewards mechanism and emphasis on secure, fast transactions, Rupee positions itself as a promising player in the evolving landscape of digital finance.
