What is Ravencoin?

Ravencoin (RVN) is an open-source blockchain protocol that offers a range of innovative features tailored to meet the needs of business customers. Its native token is the RVN coin, also known as the RVN token. The Ravencoin project was developed to address the challenges faced by current token issuance systems and to ensure compliance with legal requirements for token offerings.

The Ravencoin project was launched in January 2018 by Bruce Fenton and Tron Black as a fork of Bitcoin's code, with the goal of making it easier to transfer unique assets between users. The developers focused on nine key areas to create a blockchain that was specifically designed to manage these activities.

Unlike Bitcoin, Ravencoin nodes are aware that assets are encoded in the message, making it possible to transfer assets without the need to transfer actual Bitcoin. Additionally, unlike Ethereum, Ravencoin is able to distinguish between assets with the same unique name. Ravencoin's goal is to build a completely asset-aware Bitcoin-like system.

Ravencoin launched without a pre-mine, initial coin offering (ICO), or founder reward, like Bitcoin. In case of splits or upgrades, the Ravencoin network uses the BIP9 consensus rules for governance. In January 2022, Ravencoin's block reward was halved from 5,000 RVN to 2,500 RVN. The total supply of RVN is 21 billion, compared to Bitcoin's 21 million.

Ravencoin is built on the Bitcoin's unspent transaction output (UTXO) concept, but it has added new functionality such as assets, prizes, unique assets, messaging, and voting. The platform is designed to be secure, decentralized, and tamper-resistant. It can also be used as a foundation and starting point for other projects, second-layer solutions, experiments, and business concepts.

The Ravencoin protocol can be used to ease the issuance and transfer of unique assets, which can be used for anything the investor desires, such as land titles, automobile ownership, energy credits, stocks, partnership interests, virtual products, and airline miles. The native token, RVN, can be used for various activities within the Ravencoin blockchain, such as sending, receiving, holding, and staking, all of which support the maintenance and operations of the platform.

In summary, Ravencoin is a blockchain protocol that offers a range of innovative features for business customers, which aims to make the process of token issuance and transfer of unique assets more efficient and secure. Its native token RVN can be used for various activities within the Ravencoin blockchain, such as sending, receiving, holding, and staking, which all support the maintenance and operations of the platform.

Additionally, the platform's ability to distinguish between assets with the same unique name and its compliance with legal requirements for token offerings sets it apart from other blockchain projects. Ravencoin's goal is to build a completely asset-aware Bitcoin-like system and to facilitate the transfer of unique assets between users.
