Orca is Solana’s apex liquidity layer: a decentralized trading protocol built around a Concentrated Liquidity Automated Market Maker (CLAMM). The Solana Blockchain is designed to provide a decentralized, user-friendly and scalable environment for applications. The Orca protocol’s capital efficiency delivers low transaction fee and latency trades with minimal slippage, while also allowing liquidity providers to earn trading fees.

The Orca platform's utility and governance token is ORCA, which aims to deprecate existing liquidity pools that pay a flat 0.3 percent to liquidity providers and establish new pools with a lower fee structure. The fees collected from trading activities are used to fund the platform's development, regulate the token supply via buy-backs, and support other activities that maintain the Orca protocol.

Orca continues to decentralize ownership of the protocol by distributing ORCA token rewards to liquidity providers. The rollout of capital efficient concentrated liquidity pools has allowed the protocol to distribute fewer tokens over time. Orca is a DAO, with powers delegated to a holder elected DAO council, through which ORCA holders have control over the Orca treasury which ties the value of the token to the protocol.

Orca aims to create a human-centered and user-friendly environment for trading on Solana. Orca's Fair Price Indicator helps users save time by comparing prices on Orca to other sources. When users enter a trade on Orca, the platform verifies two criteria: the slippage is less than or equal to the tolerance setting, which defaults to 1 percent, and the rate is within 1 percent of the reported market rate.

For user convenience the Orca UI includes an integrated token panel, allowing users to check token balances without the need to open a wallet browser extension. Most protocols lack such mechanisms, Orca specializes in simple human-centered design, to ensure Orca just works.

Yutaro Mori and Grace Kwan co-founded Orca in 2021. Yutaro is a software developer with experience in cryptography and economics, while Kwan has expertise in engineering, design, and writing and specializes in transforming complex technical systems into user-friendly products. The total supply of ORCA tokens is 100 million.
