What is MovieBloc?

MovieBloc is a decentralized movie and content distribution platform that aims to solve the problems caused by the domination of the theater and home entertainment industry by conglomerates, by using blockchain technology. Co-founded by Chris Kang, Jeffrey Jin, and Peter Kim, MovieBloc is a reverse ICO project driven by the Korean video streaming platform Pandora.tv. The platform aims to provide a transparent revenue share, audience data, and equal screening opportunity for creators, and diverse films and content, as well as rewards for providing curation, subtitles, and marketing materials to the community, for viewers.

The mission of MovieBloc is to create the largest film ecosystem centered on participants, where creators are given the opportunity to get a fair share of the revenue, and the audience is provided with a diverse range of films and content. The platform currently has more than 100 movies and dramas that have been screened, and it is constantly growing. The vision of MovieBloc is to build a decentralized platform that provides a level playing field for creators and audiences alike, and to eliminate the dominance of conglomerates in the entertainment industry.

In February 2020, MovieBloc acquired ‘Cobak’, a crypto community service in Korea, which provides a crypto wallet, community, real-time ticker, news, airdrop, and token sale services. In March 2020, MovieBloc established MBL Media, a content IP development company, which will carry out IP development, production, and copyright management centered on animation and movie content as its main business. Ahn Hong-ju, one of MovieBloc’s advisors, has been appointed as the CEO of MBL Media.

MovieBloc project was launched on 5 May 2019 by listing on Gate.io, and since then it has listed on several exchanges such as Binance, Upbit, Bithumb, Coinone, Indodax, and MXC within a year. The official service was launched on 31 December 2019. Recently, the platform moved to the Ontology mainnet.

The token used in the MovieBloc ecosystem is called MBL. It is used for economic activity in the ecosystem, such as users watching premium content (TVOD), creators paying translators, users donating to other participants (creators, translators), and rewarding users (for reporting illegal content, rating films, and reviewing films).
