What is Lynx?

ynx is a blockchain platform that aims to create a stable and eco-friendly environment for application developers to store and verify critical data. The platform was launched by a team based in Charlotte, N.C. on December 24, 2017. The Lynx blockchain, which is open-source, is used by Logware, a for-profit company that stores data where transparency is a key factor for both encrypted and plaintext application use cases, such as IoT sensors, transaction receipts, and data loss prevention.

At Lynx, the team believes that blockchain can only be considered a secure platform if it is created with global sustainability in mind. To achieve this, the Lynx network is designed to operate on a collaboration of low-power devices, such as Raspberry Pis, that everyday, non-technical users can run. This approach results in a collective global mining cost of only a few dollars a day, including mining the coin and confirming transactions.

To solve the problems related to standard Proof of Work (PoW), Lynx's lead technical designer created 'Hybrid Proof of Work' (HPoW). HPoW reportedly brings stability to Lynx and maintains network integrity by discouraging competitive, profit-driven mining, which demands the use of expensive, high-powered computer processing to secure the network. This creates a hierarchical and inequitable system based on who can afford high-powered mining hardware and the electrical costs associated with them. Instead, the low cost to maintain mining hardware in the global Lynx network, the low work output of discrete mining hardware in the global Lynx network, and the lilliputian impact to the global Lynx network upon acute mining hardware failure maintain network integrity.

The latest version of the white paper, co-written by Ben Wilson and Dr. A. Carreiro and published on March 17, 2019, provides additional technical information about the basic coin parameters, the HPoW phases of activation, and the block validation process. The white paper also includes information for non-technical users.

Overall, Lynx provides an innovative approach to blockchain technology by prioritizing global sustainability and eco-friendliness, creating a more accessible platform for everyday users. The platform's emphasis on transparency and security through HPoW, and its application for storing critical data make it a promising solution for the future of blockchain.
