Cronos is the native token of the Cronos chain, a decentralized, open-source, energy-efficient public blockchain that offers high speed and low transaction fees. The Cronos chain is designed to support the creator economy with Web3 applications such as decentralized finance (DeFi) and gaming-focused finance (GameFi). The ultimate goal of the Cronos chain is to serve as the foundational infrastructure for an open metaverse. Cronos is specifically designed to serve the next billion Web3 users and to enable them to experience the full benefits of self-custody of their digital assets.

The Cronos chain is powered by Ethermint and built with the Cosmos Software Development Kit (SDK). It is compatible with the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) and supports the Inter-Blockchain Communication (IBC) protocol. This means that end-users can import cryptocurrencies from the Ethereum, Cosmos, and other chain families into the Cronos chain, as well as quickly port apps and smart contracts from Ethereum and other EVM-compatible chains.
