What is Clover Finance?
Clover Finance is a blockchain infrastructure platform that aims to bring cross-chain compatibility to decentralized finance (DeFi) applications. The platform is supported by Coinbase, running on Ethereum and utilizes its native token, CLV, for paying for transactions and for voting on network upgrades.
The DeFi ecosystem today faces a challenge with isolation and lack of communication between different blockchain networks, making it difficult to securely trade value. This has resulted in the rise of custodial services that may offer harmful products and put the overall ecosystem at risk. Clover Finance provides a solution to this problem through its use of SPV simulation technology that enables easy cross-chain communication and trustless two-way pegs across different blockchain networks like Ethereum, Bitcoin, Polkadot, and more. The two-way peg allows for seamless transfer of assets from one blockchain to another and vice versa.
Clover Finance is also building a basic layer for DApps to run seamlessly with the execution of Substrate frameworks. Substrate is the foundation layer of Polkadot, providing a powerful framework for building custom blockchains using popular programming languages. Developers can benefit from the security-enhancing features of Substrate-based developer tools like multi-sig and identity-based scripting abilities.
Clover aims to improve cross-chain interoperability between Ethereum and Polkadot networks through the use of EVM-based applications. The platform also supports a gasless transaction model, eliminating high costs during network congestion and addressing scalability issues. Clover is an open-source project governed by the community, with the CLV token used for voting on system upgrades and governance.
The founders of Clover Finance, Viven Kirby, Norelle Ng, and Burak Keçeli, bring a diverse set of skills to the project. Kirby has an extensive background in enterprise resource planning and serves as the project manager. Ng, previously in human-computer interaction, is the operations lead. Keçeli, a well-known computer programmer, is the tech lead.
CLV token holders can also participate in staking and receive rewards for holding the token. Staking involves participating in consensus and helping to secure the network in exchange for platform rewards, transaction fees, and the ability to take part in network governance. There are two ways to stake CLV - by running a validator node or by staking via a nominated validator. The validator node verifies information and shares rewards with nominators who nominate it.
