aTokens are digital tokens that are created and destroyed upon the supply and withdrawal of assets to an Aave market. These tokens represent the amount of cryptocurrency assets that have been supplied and the yield that has been earned on those assets. The value of aTokens is pegged to the value of the corresponding supplied asset at a 1:1 ratio and can be securely stored, transferred or traded. Additionally, all the interest earned on the assets in the Aave Protocol is automatically distributed to aToken holders, increasing their wallet balance over time.

The Aave Protocol is a decentralized and non-custodial liquidity protocol that enables users to participate as either suppliers, borrowers or liquidators.
